This is the highway leading to the North Spit boat ramp. Ample parking and a restroom will be provided. Watch for sign. The 5 mile trail will lead us through the pristine dunes, and along many of the beautiful lakes that dot the remote dunes. The trail is well marked and groomed. An additional 1 mile loop is offered for those who wish a longer run. (A secret shortcut is available for those who want a 4 mile run) It was one of Scotty's favorite runs. As usual, this is not a race, but an adventure Memorial run to remember our running friend Scotty Brown. All are invited and encouraged to partake in this fun run. As a highlight of the day's festivities, the Reserve is hosting a slate of family-oriented events at the interpretive center as well as journeys of the slough using human-powered vehicles." "this year, our goal is to host a fun and informational event that also raises some money to assist volunteers who are helping the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Mississippi respond to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill". Live music will be provided by Dan McIlhenny, an Oregon City folk musician and guitarist. To join in the peddle and paddle journey to the slough, participants must register in advance and provide their own bicycle, kayaks and canoes, paddles and safety equipment. Registration is limited. the registration fee is $30 per boat and $20 per bike. Peddle and paddle event registrants will receive a cotton grocery bag provided by the Friends of South Slough. Proceeds will be donated to the Grand Bay estuarine reserve.

National Public Land's Day on the
North Spit
volunteers will help the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) pick
up trash and remove noxious weeds from North Spit's bayside from 9:00am to
12:00noon. Volunteers should meet at the BLM Boat Ramp on Transpacific
Lane on the North Spit at 9:00am. Bring gloves, good footwear and
sunscreen. AA hat, T-shirt, and sandwich lunch is provided free of
